In those Southern States, the voice of slavery mingled with that of the Christian gospel choir and together with European musical instruments and harmony, gave birth to a whole new style of fusion music - jazz. Over the next hundred years, the genre has diversified into countless new forms - hot jazz, ragtime, swing, Dixieland, bebop, free jazz, latin jazz... the list is almost endless.
