AmbienceThese are the sounds of a location or space - live recordings of an environment, captured 'in situ'. Live sound recordings are used in film and video to deliver an atmosphere, or background sound to a scene. |
- Human - Outdoors |
A location's environment gives it particular sounds - sources can include flowing water, animals, wind sounds, far-off traffic, aeroplanes and machinery noise, air conditioning, the sound of far-away human movement and speech, creaks from thermal compression, plumbing noises, motor engines, fan noises, and harmonics of mains power. Echo and sound absorption can distort these already faint sounds, making them sometimes unrecognisable, and blur their frequencies into a subtle, distinct background sound. |
